Privacy Resource Preface
As stated on the siebar- I am just a hobbyist and am doing this for free and for fun. Take everything I say with a grain of salt- these are just my personal reccomendations based on my use cases.
I am not liable for what you do based on the information you find here and such and things.
Beginner's Guide
So, you've just started your privacy journey, and are wondering where to begin? I'll help with that.
First off, you're going to want to ditch Proprietary Software in favor of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) using FOSS applications tends to be more favorable due to being able to verify the claims of the application by looking at the public source code- and even better, the software is also free. I would highly reccomend using AlternativeTo.net to find software that fits your needs.
Some popular alternatives to highly used programs include the following:
- Search Engine(Google Search Replacements): Startpage, SearXNG, DuckDuckGo, etc.
- Email: Protonmail (freemium), Tutanota, etc.
- Operating Systems (PC): Most desktop Linux Distributions are good alternatives to Windows/MAC and are fairly easy to use. I will make a seperate segment on switching to linux at some point.
- Office: Libre Office, etc.
- Minecraft: Luanti | yes a FOSS version of Minecraft exists
- Browser: Hardened Firefox, Librewolf, Mullvad Browser, DuckDuckGo browser, TOR/Onion Browser, etc.
- VPN: ProtonVPN(Free), Mullvad Vpn, etc.
